KeyCDN Launches New POPs in 2021

We're excited about the newly launched points of presence (POPs) in 2021! So far, we've launched 4 new points of presence on 4 different continents and more will follow this year! Namely Dubai, Tel Aviv, Brisbane, and Athens have been added. It's our mission to continuously improve web performance and each POP contributes to it. The new POPs are in production and have been automatically added to all existing Zones.

Dubai - UAE

Dubai has grown significantly over the past decades, not just demographically but also in terms of internet penetration. With an internet penetration of almost 92%, the UAE is among the highest worldwide.

Not just the UAE benefits from the new POP, but also other countries in the region will get a performance boost, such as:

  • Oman
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Kuwait
  • Quatar

Tel Aviv - Israel

With the introduction of a POP in Israel, request no longer need to be routed to POPs in Europe. With Tel Aviv being the technology capital of Israel, it's the ideal edge server location.

The image below shows a significant drop in latency once we've launched the new point of presence in Israel. In fact, latency has been reduced by almost 50%!

Performance report

Brisbane - Australia

Brisbane is our 4th POP in Australia. After Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne the new POP south of the Sunshine Coast will further increase performance in Australia.

With a population of 2.5 million people, Brisbane is also the capital city of Queensland. The new POP ensures better performance along the East Coast. With a total of 5 POPs in Oceania, this continent benefits from lower latency with every POP added.

Athens - Greece

The POP in Athens brings better performance to Greece with a population of over 10 million people.

According to Wikipedia, Greece has an average internet connection speed of just over 30 Mbps. Compared to other countries in the region, the connection speed has room to grow.

How to check a POP location

Each edge server adds the HTTP response header X-Edge-Location delivered by KeyCDN. For example, the POP in Tel Aviv uses ilta. The first two letters stand for the country TLD, while the 3rd and 4th letters are for the city. You can quickly check the response headers using Chrome DevTools or a simple curl command like the one below:

curl -I https://www.keycdn.com/img/example.jpg
HTTP/2 200

x-cache: HIT
x-edge-location: ilta

Check the status of a POP

Uptime and low latency is very important to us and we ensure that your content is always properly delivered from the nearest POP. If you are experiencing any issues with any point of presence check our status page to verify if we are performing any scheduled maintenance or open a support request with us.

What's next?

We have more locations schedules for this year. In fact, Denver will follow soon and further improve web performance in the US! If you'd like to request a POP in another location or a new feature please let us know and stay tuned for more exciting announcements.

Happy content delivery everyone!
